Snow and ice on roads and in our parking lot!
Will we have to cancel? How will everyone find out?
Inclement Weather Policy
Revised January 10 2007

SUMMARY: When weather conditions cause you to be unsure about whether Sunday School, Worship or an activity will take place, call the church office. As soon as possible a recording will be available to provide information or, if the pastor is able to be at the church, she will answer your telephoned questions. General guidelines are below.

SUNDAY SCHOOL and WORSHIP:

The pastor will try to get to the church building by 9:00 on Sunday morning to assess conditions on nearby roads and in the parking lot. If she cannot get to church, Sunday school and morning worship will both be canceled.

Notice will be phoned in to WBNT for them to announce on the air and a recording placed on the church answering machine (which she can do remotely) as well. If in doubt, call the church to check the recording.

If the pastor is able to get to the church, she will decide whether to hold Sunday school based on parking lot and road conditions. If they are unsafe, she will cancel Sunday school.

Notice will be phoned in to WBNT and the pastor will be available at the church to answer telephone inquiries.

If the pastor is able to get to the church, a worship service will be held for anyone who is able to come, unless the pastor judges that conditions are deteriorating enough that it will be unsafe for her to return home after worship.

There are several members who live close enough to walk to church and others who have four wheel drive vehicles. We urge members to consider carefully the road conditions before attending church and not to attend if they feel conditions are not safe. Nursery care may not be available in bad weather even if the worship service is held.

CHOIR REHEARSAL:

The choir rehearsal policy reminds the same: if local schools are canceled because of bad weather, choir rehearsal is usually canceled as well.

However, sometimes the weather deteriorates late in the day and choir rehearsals will be canceled on short notice. Again, call the church for a recorded message if you have a question.

MORE ABOUT NOTIFICATIONS:

Finally, depending on the time of day when the weather decision is made, it may not be practical to put a notice on our church web site for same-day cancellations, but when possible, the pastor will send out an email to the whole church or to the choir, as applicable, to notify you of cancellations.
